Where were you when you heard that the World Trade Center had been attacked on 9/11? It’s hard to believe next month is the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

To reflect on where we were at the time of the attacks and where we are now, The Explorer would like to hear from you. Please email us and share your thoughts about that awful morning and its aftermath. How did you react? How did it affect your life? Did you know any of the victims or first-responders? Did you participate in any fundraisers? How has it changed your life today?

I remember turning on the TV that morning to watch the morning news program while getting ready for work. I saw the smoke coming from one tower, then sat transfixed when the second tower was hit.

My immediate thought was of my nephew in the U.S. Navy, who was then stationed on a minesweeper in the Gulf of Bahrain. Then I thought of the people who were injured or killed, and of their families, and then the first-

responders who raced to the scene.

Like many of you, I was addicted to the TV coverage. Sometimes I watched, hoping to catch a glimpse of my nephew in the footage of military personnel. Other times, I couldn’t tear myself away from the surrealistic video.

I also remember the patriotism we felt, and the kindnesses shared between strangers. What a remarkable outpouring of support, much of which still exists today.

What do you remember? Please share your thoughts.

Just a reminder that we’d also love you to share your digital photos of your child’s first day of school this year. Please email them to me at Keep in mind my email cannot accept attachments totaling more than 7 MB.

Be sure to include your name and phone number, as well as your child’s name, grade and school.
