I am ready to recall Mayor Hiremath right now. He's completely dishonest with the residents of Oro Valley and is pursuing an agenda that has nothing to do with the long-term financial well-being of Oro Valley. 2 months ago
Pat Straney is so correct in calling out the deceit of Mayor Hiremath and Council members who lied about the fiscal health of the town until their post-election call for tax-based revenue increases. Mr. Straney may find it "particularly interesting" but I find it utterly galling. I am in total agreement with him that the town needs a thorough and comprenesive audit, and that needs to be done by an independent agency, certainly not by the mayor or any OV employee. This money would be better spent than the consultants the town hires to say everyone in the town agrees with their personal agendas.3 months ago
One of the worst editorials I have ever read. How about some knowledge about the subject? Henry Louis Gates, HARVARD professor, was locked out of his own house returning from a trip when he was arrested by a Cambridge police officer who cuffed him as a burglar without listening to Gates explain the circumstance. Was the cop acting stupidly? Pretty much, yes. Was he racially profiling Gates in a predominantly white upper class Harvard neighborhood? YES. The president "comes from privilege"? EH? He was raised by a single mother and his maternal grandparents. At one point his family was on food stamps. He lived a lower middle-class life. He only paid off his copious student loans after the success of the books that he himself wrote. Ms. Grimes, better to remain silent and be thought the fool than to write an editorial and remove all doubt.Aug 28, 2013
Mr. Ryan is spot-on! Our country (and AZ in particular) is very unsafe to live in because there are too many "patriotic" vigilantes like Flanagan just looking for an opportunity to score a citizen-kill. I think the owners of the semi-automatic assault rifles should go out and shoot at targets fashioned to look like their children and grandchildren. Then they would have half a chance to understand why the Newtown victims' relatives and other sane citizens have a legitimate emotional investment in serious gun control.Jan 16, 2013
It's a shame the Explorer News does not check facts on WWW.FACTCHECK.ORG before publishing letters that are filled with lies and mistruths. Mudslinging does not stick when it's aimed so far to the right. See http://www.factcheck.org/2012/07/obamas-sealed-records/ to verify that NONE of the accusations in the Saddlebrook letters vilifying Barack Obama is true.Aug 23, 2012
When I have to give my address to someone on the phone, I always say "Arizona, unfortunately" and the other person often says "I know what you mean." Arizona is an embarrassment to the United States of America. I am ashamed to tell someone I live here. This column just reinforces how awful this place is. If the Republican legislators got everything they wanted, there would be even fewer reasons to live here. They can't legislate away the climate. But they can legislate away the future of the state.May 16, 2012
All of these candidates are poor. They want to repeal "Obamacare" and replace it with the same policies, just not credit the legislation to Obama. They have no solutions for getting the AZ economy growing with high-paying jobs (other than their own) because the educationachievement level in AZ is terrible but they want nothing from the fed. govt. unless it is a handout with no strings attached. Same with military funding. These people want to take away individual liberties and mandate social legislation. Awful.Mar 24, 2012
