Zinkin is totally in the right and I support him. He may be a bit heavy handed. But that is understandable since the Mayor is clearly very aggressive with him. Councilman Zinking sees the big picture. All expenses need to be considered, yes, even the expense of the police. If Oro Valley had high crime we would be reluctant to cut back. But Oro Valley is one of the safest cities in the U.S. Not because crime is being kept in check, because the people here are very respectful and law abiding and want what's best for the community.8 months ago
This why the Stand Your Ground Law must be abolished. It prevented a fair trial. Jurors are not making a decision by weighing all of the facts. The moment they are told the "killing" falls into a legitimate legal category they need not look much deeper. This is a "shooter-Protection" Law. not a law that protects "normal" citizens.9 months ago
we need to make this stand your ground law more specific. A jury should weigh all evidence and arguments as our founding fathers intended. In that process the plaintiff and defendant are given a fair trial. When the "Stand Your Ground" law is invoked the jury can see that in most cases it fits. What happens is the shooter is validated even though he may be fully guilty. That determination should be made at the end of the process. The NRA and anyone who invested to make this law come to pass has blood on their hands.10 months ago
