Hundreds of neighbors visited Picture Rocks Community Center on Sept. 20 for a Community Resource Fair. Over 30 displays brought information on local resources and issues along with flu shots, popcorn and sno-cones and useful take-aways. Scouts, 4H Clubs, United Way’s Elder Alliance, Sheriff’s Auxiliary, Abbett Library, Marana Health Center and Food Bank, Citizens for Picture Rocks, Neighbors Helping Neighbors and others spoke to community needs.

Trico Electric Cooperative, Inc., is pleased to once again announce that it’s accepting applications for the 2015 POWER Grant program. This year’s funding focus is Food and Basic Needs for Children.
Getting $10,000 for their POWER Pack program was a big deal for the Marana School District, but when an additional $5,000 was donated, it was even better.
Chief Deputy Chris Nanos advised that the female found in the desert area near Trico Road and Avra Valley Road on June 6, 2014, has been identified as 13-year-old Maribel Victoria Gonzales from Tucson. Maribel’s family last saw her at approximately 8:00 p.m. on June 3, 2014 and she was reported as a runaway to another local law enforcement agency on June 4, 2014.

When deputies arrived, they were directed to a dead body, in stages of decomposition, on the east side of the road.

The Marana Community Food Bank received a $5,000 TRICO Electric Cooperative Power Grant. The grant has been used to purchase peanut butter with help from the Fry’s Food Store #689 at Tangerine and Thornydale roads.

The Marana Chamber of Commerce has announced its board of directors for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. The new chairman of the board is Steve Miklosi, general manager of the Breakers Water Park. Miklosi served as the chairman-elect during the previous fiscal year.
