The Walt Disney Company has been responsible for some of the most timeless classics to grace our theaters and TV screens since the company’s inception in 1923. The multinational mass media conglomerate is one of the largest companies in the world and has established itself as a leader in the American animation industry as well as live-action film, television, travel, and theme parks. The Disney train has been going strong for decades now and there seems to be nothing stopping its momentum in the coming years.
It’s not every day you get to meet a living cinema legend. And it’s even rarer that said legend turns out, in a good way, to be the polar opposite of what you expected him or her to be. Case in point is Danny Trejo, the iconic bad-ass and tough-guy with well over two-hundred screen credits to his name, who in real-life is one of the nicest and most personable movie stars you could ever imagine.
In recent years, there have been some really good Oscar hosts like Hugh Jackman, some acceptable hosts like John Stewart, some disappointing hosts like Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin, and some flat-out horrendous hosts like James Franco & Anne Hathaway. Despite the best efforts of some, none have come close to capturing the same wit, timing, and showmanship of reoccurring hosts like Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, or Billy Crystal. At the 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony however, Seth MacFarlane of “Ted” and “Family Guy” emerged as the single most entertaining first-time Oscar host of the 21st century.
My son is turning six next week. The invitations for his party have already gone out. We’re loosely going with a Muppet theme this year. By “loosely going with,” I mean to say that the theme will be discernible only to a discriminating eye. His invitations featured Kermit and Animal. His party favors are Pez dispensers with Muppet heads. The background music is the soundtrack from the most recent Muppet movie. We’re even doing rainbow connection cupcakes as a nod to Kermit’s performance in the original Muppet movie. That’s where the buck stops, though.
Oro Valley was rained out a couple of week ago, but Movies in the Park is planned again this weekend.

“Are you a Muppet, or a man?”
Things to do, people to see, places to go this week.
