Early ballots in the Southern Arizona special election for Congressional District 8 will be sent out this week, with the General Election date just under a month away.
Democrat Ron Barber is receiving bipartisan support as he campaigns in the special election to take over former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' seat.
Recently, Tucson City Council members Steve Kozachik and Karin Uhlich proposed banning texting while driving in town limits. If passed, Tucson drivers who deem it OK to multi-task by driving and sending that all-to-important text could be fined hundreds of dollars at a time.
I’m tired of those who claim the cronyism and corruption of Tucson’s city government are akin to Chicago’s. It insults Chicago. Detroit, in all its squalor and incompetence, may be a better example.

Sixty years ago, the late Barry Goldwater was part of a movement in Phoenix called Charter Government that changed their elections to non-partisan. Part of the motivation was the then-overwhelming dominance of Arizona by the Democratic Party. Like a home-based poker game, it's always the losers who want to change the rules.
