Arizona Oncology, a practice in The US Oncology Network, is pleased to announce that its clinic location in northwest Tucson has been recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. The QOPI Certification Program provides a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet the highest standards for quality cancer care. In addition to the clinic located on Rudasill Road in Tucson, other Arizona Oncology clinics currently pursuing QOPI certification include the Biltmore Cancer Center in Phoenix and the Saguaro Cancer Center in Glendale.
The bighorn sheep reintroduction project in the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson is ill-advised. The habitat on the mountain isn’t suitable, and the sheep have a right to live their lives without heavy handed management.

The developers of a proposed subdivision on the site of Marana’s historic Lazy K Bar Guest Ranch are trying again for rezoning with the hope that this time, the entire town council will vote on their request.

Hundreds of neighbors visited Picture Rocks Community Center on Sept. 20 for a Community Resource Fair. Over 30 displays brought information on local resources and issues along with flu shots, popcorn and sno-cones and useful take-aways. Scouts, 4H Clubs, United Way’s Elder Alliance, Sheriff’s Auxiliary, Abbett Library, Marana Health Center and Food Bank, Citizens for Picture Rocks, Neighbors Helping Neighbors and others spoke to community needs.
Hikers from the Picture Rocks Community Center Hiking Club (PRCCHC) started their season with a Sept. 25 stroll around the SASCO smelter, which closed in 1919.
