The Arizona Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) named the Tucson streetcar the public works project of the year at its annual conference today in Tucson.

By the end of fiscal year 2013, which ended June 30, 2013, the success of the Oro Valley Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride transportation service was no longer a secret, nor was it a surprise. This expanded service, which was the result of an intergovernmental agreement between the Town of Oro Valley and the Regional Transportation Authority of Pima County (RTA), has increased by 118 percent, or 17,569 passenger trips from its implementation in FY 2011 through the close of FY 2013. This type of increase in service at this rapid pace takes staff dedication and could not be achieved without the backing of a supportive town council.
At the April meeting of the RTA/PAG Working Transit Group meeting there was discussion about the rate increases proposed by Sun Tran. This still needs to be approved by Tucson’s mayor and council but will also impact the rates for the Express routes and Sun Shuttles which are not within the city limits. Riders of the Express bus, the Sun Shuttle and/ or Sun Tran may be interested in providing comments on their proposed changes.
During the regular meeting on Nov. 9, the Marana Town Council voted on several measures to improve sidewalks and walkways along with voting to continue efforts to keep town salaries and jobs competitive.

The Pima County Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and their contractor, KE&G, will be shifting traffic as they continue improvements on the Cortaro Farms Road/Magee Road: Thornydale Road to Oracle Road Improvement Project.
On February 13, 2012, the Town of Oro Valley, in partnership with the Regional Transportation Authority of Pima County (RTA), launched the Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride transit service. This new service integrated the Town’s Coyote Run senior transit service, Handicar paratransit service and the RTA Sun Shuttle circulator service into a single, expanded service that provides mobility to more individuals in the Oro Valley area.
