Two Pima Community College alumni are hoping to return to Pima as members of the governing board.
Two candidates are running for the open seat on Pima Community College’s Board of Governors, each promising to repair the college’s credibility after Pima has faced probation by its accrediting body, acknowledged sexual harassment of employees by a former chancellor, and falling enrollment.
Canyon Del Oro is expected to name Keith Francis as their head baseball coach. Francis previously coached the Dorados in the early 2000’s.
Pima pitcher Marcel Renteria was named ACCAC Conference Division I Pitcher of the Week. He got wins against Arizona Western College and South Mountain. He pitched 13 2/3 innings giving up 2 runs (2 earned) with 14 strikeouts for the week.
The Aztecs baseball team split its conference doubleheader against Cochise College. The Aztecs are now 31-20 overall and 20-13 in ACCAC conference and are in 3rd place in the ACCAC Division I standings with 5 games to go in the regular season.
The Lady Aztecs softball team swept a doubleheader at El Paso Community College. Alexis Dotson went on a tear on offense going 7 for 9 with 6 RBIs, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases and 2 doubles on the day. Celina Martinez picked up a win and a save pitching 6 2/3 innings in 2 appearances giving up no runs. Pima now 16-19 overall.
The Pima Community College baseball team (20-11) closed out the South Mountain CC Tournament on Saturday with another dominating pitching performance and its balanced offense as the Aztecs beat Douglas College (Canada) 10-0 in eight innings.
