(StatePoint) Ignorance is not always bliss, as parents, pet owners and homeowners know all too well. Whether you’re away on vacation and unsure if you left the lights on, at work and worried about the kids, or even sitting on your couch wondering what mischief the dog is up to in the yard, knowing what’s going on inside your entire home is crucial for peace of mind.
(BPT) - Americans’ love affair with pets continues to grow with approximately 69 million households owning a pet, according to American Veterinary Medical Association. In fact, pet ownership has tripled since the 1970s, and today there are 74.1 million owned cats alone. Felines are great companion animals, but there is still a surprising amount of widely accepted misinformation about cats – and it’s causing a multitude of issues.
(BPT) - Because pets are such beloved members of the family, it isn’t a surprise that pet parents want what is right for the health of their furry friends. In fact, nearly four out of five pet owners say they choose a pet food based on how nutritious or how healthy they think it will be for their pet, while only 10 percent say they make a selection based on how their pets may like the taste, according to the Buying & Choosing Pet Food survey recently conducted by PetMD and Pet360.

(BPT) - Shocking statistics show that nearly three-quarters of the cats who enter our nation’s animal shelters each year, most of whom are free-roaming and un-owned, are killed. Fortunately, Americans’ love of animals doesn’t end with the pets that live in their homes; their care extends to the millions of cats who do not have owners and simply live throughout towns and cities. Across the country a growing number of communities are adopting humane ways to manage these populations and reduce the number killed in shelters.
Every year, people all across the country participate in a time-honored tradition and make bold New Year’s resolutions. Many of these resolutions have to do with improving our health and, sadly, many of them are broken by the end of January. It isn’t that we give up so much as we are overwhelmed. We have the best of intentions, but sometimes our resolutions are a bit too super-sized. Running a marathon might sound great on January 1, but thirty days later it can feel impossible.
The Civic Orchestra of Tucson will perform a concert of light classics and will feature the talented teenage Powe String Trio on Tuesday, January 27, at The Highlands at Dove Mountain Clubhouse. The concert will be proceeded by a silent auction at 6:30 p.m. followed by music at 7:00 p.m.
(NAPSI)—There are two good reasons why now is the ideal time to start planning your family vacation. One is to avoid being among the 40 percent of Americans the U.S. Travel Industry estimates do not use all their earned vacation days. The other is because research indicates the simple act of planning a vacation results in a large boost in happiness that can last for up to eight weeks.

(Family Features) Man’s best friend can be counted on for many things – from greeting you after a long day at work to being a loyal walking buddy. But to reap all the benefits of dog ownership, it’s important to lay the foundation of training and obedience.
(Family Features) ‘Tis the season for holiday parties, and many pet lovers jump at the opportunity to include their four-legged friends in the festivities. Pet holiday parties may range from the simply elegant to the simply silly, but they all have one thing in common – a doggone good time.
(BPT) - Whether a loyal pal like Lassie is what you’re looking for, or a Garfield–like couch potato is more your speed, a pet can make a wonderful addition to your family. But there is more to choosing a new pet than simply falling in love with a cute face. Making an informed and well-researched decision can lead to a happy home life for both you and your pet.

While The Loft Cinema has been embracing the Holiday spirit with their recent Sing-A-Long Spectacular and correlating Ugly Sweater contest, this coming Saturday (Dec. 20th) continues in the grand Loft tradition with a midnight showing of the 1975 cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” A signature event for Tucson’s premiere art theater that has lasted 36 years (and counting), this fishnet filled affair tells the story of young couple (Barry Bostwick & Susan Sarandon) who break down in the middle of nowhere and find their way to a curiously isolated castle. Once inside, they meet mad scientist/transvestite Frank N. Furter (insert knee slap here) and a group of similarly zany house guests who all participate in the creation of a “living muscle man.”
