That’s because increasingly, adults are treating themselves later in life to straighten out their smile or correct their bite. In fact, according to a recent survey by the American Association of Orthodontists, one in five orthodontic patients is an adult and 65 percent of adults do not think that having braces has or will have a negative effect on their personal or professional lives.
Today, one in five orthodontic patients is an adult and there are several options that give adult wearers of braces more discreet choices. (NAPS)
(NAPSI)—Here’s something to smile about: No one is “too old” for orthodontic treatment. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age. Here are a few facts that can help guide adults in a quest for a healthy, beautiful smile.

The first thing to consider about trauma to the teeth is prevention. If your child is playing contact sports, he or she should be wearing a mouthguard. That said, accidents do happen. If your child knocks out a permanent tooth, a timely response is very important. Call your dentist to let them know what happened. Find the tooth, hold it by the crown (not the root) and rinse it off. Do not rub the root or scrub it. Try to put the tooth back into its socket and hold it in place. If this is something you can’t do, you want to store it in milk or sterile saline solution. If you don’t have either of these, the tooth can be stored in the cheek (don’t swallow!) until you get to the dentist.
Everyone needs some kind of retainer after they finish up with their braces or Invisalign treatment.

As a general rule, it is usually easier, more efficient, and less expensive to start orthodontic treatment after all of the adult teeth have grown into place. This is usually around 12-13 years of age. However, there are some instances where it is advisable to start treatment while some of the baby teeth are still in place.

Although that is something he is passionate about, his patients know him best for his quality orthodontic work, his friendly personality and his professional attitude.
The American Association of Orthodontist recommends that your child get their first orthodontic check-up at age 7. The reason for this, is that the adult front teeth (incisors) and the first set of adult molars should be grown in by this time. By looking at how these adult teeth relate to each other, the orthodontist is able to make a good determination about how the teeth are developing and how the growth of the upper and lower jaw bones are relating to each other.
