(BPT) - Can you imagine a museum without paintings? Technology has impacted society in countless ways but many overlook its impact on the arts. The very phrase “the arts” might evoke images of oils, watercolors or sculpture but technology is inspiring a whole new generation of artists who are using new mediums to create their masterpieces.
1. Couple shouting "revolution!" kills three in Las Vegas
The televised announcement of “The Late Show” host David Letterman’s retirement sparked an immediate knee-jerk reaction of public speculation over who would be chosen to fill the void left by the longest running talk show host. Familiar names began to enter the fray as potential successors. Rumors circulated regarding Neil Patrick Harris, Tina Fey, Chelsea Handler, and even Jay Leno as the next torch bearer. Ultimately, however, it would be Comedy Central’s golden goose, Stephen Colbert, who would be awarded the opportunity to take his talents to one of the most coveted spots in television.
1. Hostage standoff continues at Kenyan mall following militant shootout
At the end of January, the popular TV sitcom, "How I Met Your Mother", was given the green light for what will be its ninth and final season. "How I Met Your Mother", or HIMYM, has been a run-away hit since its inception in 2005 and has been gaining a huge following over the past 8 seasons. HIMYM is based around the story of how Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) met his wife and mother of his two children. The entire show is told through flashbacks as future Ted recounts the story of how he met his wife to his children. The bulk of the show takes place around Ted's close knit group of friends: Marshall Eriksen(Jason Segel), his college sweetheart Lily Eriksen (Alyson Hannigan), the Canadian ex-pop sensation turned anchor woman Robin Scherbatsky(Cobie Smulders) , and the womanizing lady-killer Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris).
Before they opened, who would have thought that “The Smurfs” movie would run a close second behind “Cowboys and Aliens” ($36.4 million vs. $35.6 million) at the box office?
R for sexual content, language, brief violence and some drug use. 108 min. One and a half stars out of four.
