Mountain Vista Fire District will host a Holiday Open House Saturday, December 6, at Station 620 located at 9310 N. Shannon Road, and Saturday, Dec. 13, at Station 610 located at 1175 W. Magee Road, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
It’s the time of year when we all feel more thankful for everything we have. We count our blessings a little more and appreciate the people and organizations that make our lives complete.
Candidates for Legislative District 11 State Senate and House of Representatives will appear at the second 2014 Election Forum sponsored by Citizens for Picture Rocks (C4PR) on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Picture Rocks Community Center, 5615 N. Sanders Road. Former State Representative from Picture Rocks Jennifer Burns will again moderate as invited Senate candidates Jo Holt (D) and Steve Smith (R) respond to questions submitted from the community.
Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815 expressed its appreciation to local firefighters for the valuable service they provide to the community on the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Members of the lodge prepared and delivered turkey dinners with all the trimmings to eight fire stations in the Golder Ranch Fire District and two in the Mountain Vista Fire District. These dedicated men and women provide service to Catalina, Oro Valley, SaddleBrooke and southern Pinal County.

How can the Mountain Vista Fire District board justify cancelling their contract with a perfectly good provider (Rural/Metro) and then charging their taxpayers more for the same service? At a time when so many people are struggling financially from unemployment and underemployment, this is simply irresponsible. One wonders how Golder Ranch Fire District can provide the same service at a lower rate. If the answer is that Golder Ranch is bigger, then maybe Mountain Vista is too small.
At the midpoint of the year - on July 1 - the Mountain Vista Fire District will become what it calls “fully operational” by adding 33 firefighters to its full time staff.

Mountain Vista Fire District has hired two new Administrative battalion chiefs.
Darin Reid and Michael Price were both sworn in as battalion chiefs for Mountain Vista Fire District on March 17.
On March 14, Mountain Vista Fire District units responded to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of W. Morning View Drive.
The Mountain Vista Fire District is on its way to becoming a completely independent fire department with its recent decision to pursue hiring its own emergency services personnel — firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and fire officers.
Keeping with the patriotic spirit of Sept. 11, all of the businesses and churches at the corner of La Cañada and Magee came together for the second annual First Responders Appreciation Block Party.
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
On June 6, at 5:05 p.m., deputies from the Foothills District responded to a single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle in the 5500 block of West Overton Rd. When deputies arrived they located the motorcycle inside a fenced area on the property of Degrazia Elementary School. The motorcyclist was conscious and being treated by Mountain Vista Fire Department personnel.
Northwest Fire District units along with an Engine from the Mountain Vista Fire District responded to Thornydale Road just south of Linda Vista Blvd just after 9:30pm after 9-1-1 calls were received indicating multiple pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle.

Mountain Vista Fire District has been successful in annexing the Camino de Mañana area in Northwest Pima County and received certification of the annexation from the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
Mountain Vista Fire District has surpassed the number of signatures of owners and the amount of property value required to annex nearly four square miles of Northwest Tucson into its district for fire protection.

Today many ceremonies will be held to honor those lost 11 years ago on Sept. 11 when terrorists hijacked planes, flying them at the World Trade Center in New York.
