Many adults complain that today’s youth is dominated by video games and iPads. But no matter how advanced technology becomes, Lego will always be there to provide the building blocks for good, old-fashion fun. Every Lego box is a treasure chest of infinite possibilities, allowing us to construct castles, cars, and entire cities. Lego has fueled our imaginations ever since 1949. Sixty-five years and 560 billion Lego pieces later, we get “The Lego Movie.”
This year saw an epic catalogue of YouTube hits. From twerking to shaking to cute kids, 2013 had hundreds of viral trends to remember— some with reverence, others with disgust and others still with sheer confusion.
There are dozens of reasons to slam the new Jason Statham film, “Homefront”, the least of which is its misleading movie poster that has the British action star swathed in the stars and stripes of the American flag, which, when coupled with the film’s title, persuades one to believe that this is patriotic post-war flick of some kind – it’s not. But, nevertheless, it’s still a pretty good old-school action flick and on that level it’s a decent way to spend a Saturday afternoon with a bag of popcorn.
While Will Smith’s “After Earth” seemed to attract many of the headlines going into the weekend’s movie Box Office openings, it was “Now You See Me” that came in second behind the summer hit “Fast and Furious 6”.
"Oblivion” is another movie that seems better suited for a video game than a motion picture. Watching the characters engage in endless shoot outs and explore vast, abandoned terrains, all you want to do is get your hands on a controller. Since a movie is unequipped with game play, though, you’re forced to sit back and merely observe the story. Then again, most modern video games have more three-dimensional characters and smarter plots than “Oblivion.” This science fiction mystery from director Joseph Kosinski isn’t completely without some good ideas, elevating it above “Transformers” schlock. It’s just unfortunate those ideas never meld into anything that intriguing.

There are few movies that can hold a child’s attention all the way through, much less several children at the same time. However, it was amazing to see not one, not two, but three children sit quietly all the way through “Dolphin Tale.”
In a “Dolphin Tale,” a group of strangers, led by actors Harry Connick Jr. and Morgan Freeman come together to save Winter, a dolphin that lost her tail in a crab trap. The inspiring true story is worth the cost of a DVD rental.

It’s difficult to separate the movie from its mystique.
