Ironwood Ridge is serving notice that they may have one of the best defenses in southern Arizona. The Nighthawks got another terrific defensive effort to beat Cienega 17-7 on Friday night.
After two tough games to open the season, Ironwood Ridge had a bit of a breather Friday night as they beat Glendale Apollo 56-13.
Moments after Nathan Farmer split the uprights on a 30-yard field goal to give Ironwood Ridge a 24-21 win against rival Canyon Del Oro, the Nighthawks’ Head Coach Matt Johnson admitted that the better team may not have won the game, but the team that was better on special teams got the win.
The 2013 high school football season is officially under way, with teams hitting the field on Aug. 23, including returning state champions Ironwood Ridge High School.
After capturing the Division II State Championship last year, the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks will look to rebuild this year, returning only one starter out of 22 spots from the 2012 season.
