JW Marriott Starr Pass has announced Russ Bond as its new General Manager. Along with Bond, Dan Carraher has been hired as the new Director of Sales and Marketing, and John Strong has been appointed as Director of Events.
After having councilwoman Roxanne Ziegler ask for his resignation about four months ago, John Lambert, president of Continental Ranch Homeowners Association, turned the tables at the Town of Marana meeting on Nov. 6 by asking for Ziegler’s resignation from council. Ziegler was excused and not present at the meeting.
The Arizona Distance Classic, planned in Oro Valley this March, is aiming to do more than just get people fit. With the announcement of a new partnership, the Arizona Distance Classic has teamed up with a local elementary school to raise funds for the Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Foundation.

The Oro Valley Town Council expressed its faith in the Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities (TREO) and Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau (MTCVB) during the June 20 meeting, but the decision to approve funding for each organization didn’t come without some debate.

After an extensive nationwide search, the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors has selected Brent DeRaad for the position of President & CEO, replacing long-time chief Jonathan Walker, who announced his retirement last September after 18 years with the bureau.
This weekend, the 2011 Major League Soccer Desert Cup featuring the New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City will be the most important professional soccer event in Tucson’s history. This two-day event, March 4-5 at Hi Corbett Field, marks the first time MLS teams have ever played in the Old Pueblo. It also marks the home debut of FC Tucson, the city’s new semi-pro team featuring local talent with diverse and unique stories.
