Catalina Foothills kept their playoff hopes alive with their 45-0 win over Casa Grande. The Falcons sit at 5-3 and will need to win out to feel comfortable about being in playoff contention. They finish with Marana and Maricopa, two three-win teams.
CDO bolstered their playoff resume, while Marana saw their faint playoff hopes end in the Dorados 42-24 win over the Tigers.
CDO’s Bridgett Doucet won the girls seeded three-mile race at the 13th annual Valerie McGregor Rattler Invitational on Saturday. The race put on by Mountain View High School, but held at Marana High, gives the racers a bit of a preview of the sectional races which will be held in two weeks at the school, though the course will be altered a bit.

Elementary students with Rattlesnake Ridge had the opportunity to partner with Northwest Fire District as part of the department's Mini Muster's program, which helps celebrate Fire Prevention Month. Students were educated on basic fire drills, such as operating a real fire hose and wearing full fire gear. The department also spoke on the importance of taking measures to prevent fires.

State funding cuts in recent years have eliminated monies for building renewal, new-school construction, and soft capital – which is used for textbooks, computers and classroom supplies – for school districts across Arizona. This leaves districts to turn to voters to approve tax increases in the form of bonds and budget overrides for building and maintenance projects and the purchase of vehicles, equipment and supplies.
Marana residents need look no further than their own backyard for this year’s fall festivities and fun. Coming back with delicious food, pumpkin picking, a corn maze and more is the Annual Marana Pumpkin Patch and Farm Festival.
Partnering with the Gladden Farms Community to provide a day full of fall festivities, live entertainment and food, the town of Marana will be hosting, for the first time, the Marana Harvest Festival on Oct. 25.

While Congressional District 1 is the 10th largest in the nation, and has one of the most diverse populations – both Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D) and challenger Ariz. House Speaker Andy Tobin (R) agree that the majority of the district is rural and the needs of constituents are common.
