August 31, 2005 - Jordan Powell capped off an outstanding high school career this summer with three solid meets on and near the West Coast. Before heading to the University of Arizona to compete for the Wildcat track and field program this fall, Powell had some unfinished business to attend to. First up, at the 30th Great Southwest Classic held at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, Powell knocked off the No. 1 seed in the Southwest with a wind-aided long jump of 24 feet, 1 inch. The jump was the third longest in the country in 2005 for his age group and gave him first place in the meet against athletes from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.
