In the end the Marana Town Council voted 6-1 to move forward with the implementation of a half-cent sales tax to fund the construction of a new police station, but it wasn’t without a lot of debate, verbal jousting and some tense moments.
It was a busier than normal night at the Marana Town Council last Wednesday, and it could have been an even busier session had a council action agenda item not been taken off the board. As it was, the council held the first of two public hearings over the possibility of building a new police station.
Despite the objections of many in attendance, the Marana Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend two proposals to the Town Council in regards to the Lazy K Bar Ranch development.

The developers of a proposed subdivision on the site of Marana’s historic Lazy K Bar Guest Ranch are trying again for rezoning with the hope that this time, the entire town council will vote on their request.
The motion to approve a specific plan that would allow for denser developments at the Lazy K Bar Guest Ranch failed to pass in the Marana town council meeting.
