On Sunday, we honored our mothers. We thanked these women for making us who we are today, for sacrificing so much to help us succeed. It’s an important day that means so much more to me now in these last few years since becoming a mother.
Dark thoughts consumed her mind. She thought of her family and saw an alcoholic and abusive father, her silent, beaten down mother, and imprisoned brothers. She looked at herself and saw an 18-year-old girl in a destructive relationship and a dropout who was barely making ends meat.
Fans of the now defunct hit sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” can attest to the fact that though the show was resoundingly successful, it also seemed to wear out its welcome during its final seasons. Some of the story lines became slightly overblown, as if writers were reaching desperately for ideas to carry the story into the next episode. Naturally, a large number of internet bloggers were skeptical when CBS announced that it had given the green light for a spinoff series entitled “How I Met Your Dad”.

The online streaming industry is growing and growing every year. Standing at the forefront of this online explosion is Netflix, the well known provider of both online streaming of thousands of different programs ranging from movies, to T.V. shows, and documentaries as well as in home, through the mail deliveries of their content. Netflix began the road to online kingship back in 1997, when the company began as a traditional through the mail provider. By 1999 the company had introduced a monthly subscription policy and now operates on both monthly payment and unlimited online streaming. Over the past decade or so, Netflix has found its way into the homes of many families, college students, and anyone else who enjoys video entertainment. Netflix has been able to stand amongst the forefront of much of the development of the in-home and delivery movie craze, but this rise to the top has not been one without trials and setbacks.

At the end of January, the popular TV sitcom, "How I Met Your Mother", was given the green light for what will be its ninth and final season. "How I Met Your Mother", or HIMYM, has been a run-away hit since its inception in 2005 and has been gaining a huge following over the past 8 seasons. HIMYM is based around the story of how Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) met his wife and mother of his two children. The entire show is told through flashbacks as future Ted recounts the story of how he met his wife to his children. The bulk of the show takes place around Ted's close knit group of friends: Marshall Eriksen(Jason Segel), his college sweetheart Lily Eriksen (Alyson Hannigan), the Canadian ex-pop sensation turned anchor woman Robin Scherbatsky(Cobie Smulders) , and the womanizing lady-killer Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris).

Released March 1 1971, English Progressive Rock band Pink Floyd have pushed the boundaries of music to uncharted waters. Just passing the album's 40 year anniversary, the legacy of The Dark Side of the Moon lives on interestingly enough in much of today's youth and modern culture. The way that the band ties the concept and the music together in unison makes for a mesmerizing hypnotic effect that sends the listener into a whirlpool of emotions. Never before has a band been able to send such a clear message to the listener depicting the reality of life as we know it. Darkside asks the questions that we all face, and documents the lifecycle of the human being from life till death. The clarity of the lyrics is striking, but at the same time vague enough for the listener to come to his own interpretations and tie it to his own life. In this week's feature of Music Landscape, I will be reviewing one of progressive rock's finest masterpieces, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.
