(StatePoint) Did you know that October 5-11, 2014 marks the 24th annual Mental Illness Awareness Week? In 1990, the U.S. Congress established the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in recognition of efforts by the National Alliance on Mental Illness to raise mental illness awareness.
Later this month, Tompkins Family Chiropractic and Jabez Hair and Nail Salon will be hosting the annual Stuff The Bus event to collect school supplies for Marana Unified School District students.

Emile Brink Gordon’s zeal for research at the University of Arizona led him to publish his first peer-reviewed article in the Journal of Virology – a rare achievement for an undergraduate student. His article was one of five spotlighted by the editor as “especially meritorious” and “of significant interest.” His second article has just been accepted. Last fall, Gordon presented his research at the 22nd Biennial Phage and Virus Assembly Conference – also while an undergraduate.
This weekend November 10th & 11th is the La Encantada Fine Art Festival featuring 45 fine art exhibitors as well as performing arts presentations from local art, music and theatre groups.
Campers are working on organizing and cataloging thousands of pottery specimens during the week-long camp.
The four GOP candidates running April 17 in Arizona Congressional District 8, and later in the new CD2, are solid people. Hopefully, Republicans elsewhere are fielding others as impressive.

This November we’ll elect all five members of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, and six of the seven county line officers. Supervisors are chosen by district as are Justices of the Peace and Constables. All are partisan offices.

• All the Tea Party constitutionalists who opined on talk radio that Gingrich and Cain would have made a great GOP ticket missing the constitutional provision that the President and Vice President must come from different states.
Emil and Jennifer Tompkins of Tompkins Family Chiropractic collected numerous toys from their patients and other people in the community to be donated to kids in need. The couple also collects school supplies for kids going back to school and food for families around Thanksgiving.
