On the afternoon of July 23, officers from Operations Division Midtown responded to a residence in the 4600 block of East North Street in response to an unknown trouble call. A family member of the persons that lived at the residence made a 9-1-1 call at approximately 4:12 p.m. Officers were dispatched at approximately 4:13 p.m. and arrived at approximately 4:19 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found the family member, who had called 911, waiting for them outside of the house. The officers were advised that the residents were inside of the house, and both of them appeared to be seriously injured. Officers entered the residence and found an adult male and adult female inside. Both were Caucasian and in their mid-80s. Both were also suffering from obvious signs of trauma. Upon closer inspection, the officers determined that both the male and female were deceased. Their identities are being withheld at this time pending notification of other family members.

With the popularity of turkey frying increasing, U.S. fire departments are responding to more than 1,000 fires each year in which a deep fryer is involved. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says deep fryer fires cause an average of five deaths, 60 injuries, and more than $15 million in property damage each year.
Patrick McNamara/The Explorer, Oro Valley police recently closed the books on a double-murder, which occurred at the then-under construction Honey Bee Park on June 20, 2000. The suspect in the case fled to Mexico shortly after the killings. He was killed in 2008, but Oro Valley did not get confirmation of his death from the Mexican government until September of this year.

The killing remained an open case until September 2009 when Oro Valley received confirmation from Mexico that their murderer had been killed in a shootout.
