For the second straight week the CDO football team lost a game in the final moments, while also having to deal with a strange delay. Cienega beat CDO 23-18 in a game that saw the Bobcats take a late lead, then both teams have to deal with a 15 minute delay when the lights went out.
The latest media rankings for high school football are out and there is starting to be a lot of moving going on as the season gets into its fourth week.
Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815 expressed its appreciation to local firefighters for the valuable service they provide to the community on the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Members of the lodge prepared and delivered turkey dinners with all the trimmings to eight fire stations in the Golder Ranch Fire District and two in the Mountain Vista Fire District. These dedicated men and women provide service to Catalina, Oro Valley, SaddleBrooke and southern Pinal County.
Storms affected every football game in Southern Arizona last Friday. There was not a single game in the area that was not delayed or postponed. Two games, CDO/Ironwood Ridge and Pusch Ridge/ Scottsdale Christian did not resume that night.

Three area teams were in action Monday night, with just one earning a win. In addition Catalina Foothills and Marana competed in a weekend tournament, with one of them taking it all.

Friday night means a full slate of football games involving Northwest Teams. The highlight of the schedule is the rivalry match-up between Canyon Del Oro and Ironwood Ridge.
This week just three area teams are ranked in their respective top-10 polls, while two more were still receiving votes despite suffering loses last week.
The story of the week in high school sports was the return of Bridgett Doucet. The CDO senior cross country runner finished second in the state two years ago, but missed all of last season dealing with an illness. She did come back for the track season, but she served notice at least week’s Northwest Showdown that she was all the way back and a real contender for a state championship.
The AIA will not publish official boys golf rankings until 9/15. However, their formula is public and can be computed for Southern AZ teams before that date. Below are the unofficial rankings of Southern AZ teams for results played and posted by Sunday 9/7. The team with the lowest ranking in each section gets an automatic berth in their State Tournament. Eight at-large berths from non-section winners around the state will be given in each Division.

The 2014 high school cross country season got started on Wednesday with the Northwest Showdown at Riverfront Park in Oro Valley. Eight boys squads and seven girls squads competed in the event.
Five of the six Northwest area football teams were ranked in their respecitve top-10 of the ACS Football rankings.
No games on Monday due to the Labor Day holiday, but there is still a full slate of games, including the start of swimming, volleyball and cross country.

By most standards year two of Andy Litten’s run at Marana would have to be considered a success. The Tigers, just two years removed from an 0-10 season, were 5-5 and had a legitimate shot at the playoffs.
