(StatePoint) Do you have dinner with your kids? It’s become almost a luxury today, with our crammed schedules. And yet, numerous studies show that no other hour in your children’s day will deliver as many emotional and psychological benefits as the one spent unwinding and connecting over food and conversation.
The 57th annual Grammys took over television and the Internet last night. The clear victor of the evening was Sam Smith, probably best known for his song Stay With Me, who took home four awards including Song of the Year and Best New Artist. Beyoncé took home three awards, bringing her lifetime total to 20 and making her the woman with the second most Grammy wins ever (just behind Alison Krauss of "When You Say Nothing At All" fame). Kanye West, however, didn't think that was enough suggested Beyoncé should have won a fourth award for Album of the Year over Beck.

Ann Meaders was there when the Marana Utilities Department started in 1997 and has seen the department grow as the town has grown. Meaders retired last week after 20 years of service to the town. The brief history of the department is inextricably linked to Meaders.
This latest Christopher Nolan film challenges audiences to keep up with the director’s cerebral vision and fast-paced storytelling. “Interstellar” moves at a speed and distance that doesn’t afford us, the moviegoers, the time to get complete answers along this fascinating journey. With such vast space to cover in the film, Nolan must play loose with the math and science equations, staying focussed instead on the many threats facing the talented cast. After all, the stakes are high; Earth is becoming uninhabitable and another planet must be found…right now. Like a rock skipped across the smooth waters of a lake, Nolan couldn’t slow down to fully explain the mathematics of gravity, Einstein’s theory of relativity, or how space travel was possible from a Midwestern farm to deep inside a wormhole. That deceleration would’ve halted the 3-time Oscar nominated director’s story and sank this movie. Cleverly, Nolan decided to toss one life and death challenge after another at the cast and audience, keeping both groups entertained while the rock (the main story) skips along at a high velocity.
The race between Democratic Congressman Ron Barber and Republican challenger Martha McSally remained too close to call as of the Explorer’s Monday deadline, with McSally holding a slim 341-vote lead over Barber.
(StatePoint) A holiday feast is one meal you’ll want to ensure includes flavorful, thoughtful dishes. Unfortunately, it’s one of the busiest times of year, and sorting through recipes, especially for dessert, may get pushed down the to-do list.

Anyone with a teenager, or young child who owns an iPhone will probably understand this – Our children are much too reliant on this method of communication, and we are losing the ability to speak our minds openly in person.

Apparently Brian Clymer, Esq. does not attend many Pima County Board of Supervisor meetings. If he did, he would have a better idea of what really goes on in Pima County. Supervisor Miller votes 90 to 95 percent of the time with the other board members. She does not vote with them, when something is not transparent or not in the best interest of the tax payers.
(BPT) - One afternoon about two and a half years ago, Bob Metzler was running out the door and caught the end of a television segment featuring Dr. Glenn Gaston, a hand specialist at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, North Carolina, who was talking about a condition that causes your fingers to be pulled in towards your palm. For years before seeing this on TV, Bob described puffiness in his palm and was having difficulty straightening his ring and pinky fingers. Because his dad had arthritis, he assumed that he had arthritis in his hand, or that these changes were just a normal part of aging. Once he saw Dr. Gaston on TV, a light bulb went off in Bob’s head and he decided to make an appointment.
When it rains, it pours – and in Tucson’s case it floods. On Sept. 8, the city received a downpour of rain from the post-tropical cyclone, Norbert.
(BPT) - Long, leisurely showers are a distant memory, the days are a busy blur and you’re getting used to never wearing a clean shirt – as the saying goes, parenthood is not for sissies. Yet when your little one greets the day – and you – with a smile, stress seems to melt away.

When child actress Jenny Lewis first appeared on television in the mid 1980s, she seemed to have a knack for the entertainment business. The youngster would go on to appear in fan favorite television shows such as “The Golden Girls”, “Growing Pains”, and “Roseanne”, but in the end it was the airwaves rather than the camera that would capture the entertainer’s interest. Presented with a mix-tape as a gift from fellow child actor Corey Haim, Lewis began to fall in love with music, and would eventually credit this moment as the spark that ignited the wildfire of her current musical career.
In Oro Valley, the Primary Election (Aug. 26 election day) is the first round of voting where all initial candidates have the potential to receive votes in order to advance to the General Election or win outright. Registered voters will select a candidate for each open seat, and in the case of this year’s local election, residents will select one candidate for the open Mayoral seat and three candidates for the three open Councilmember seats. If the candidates do not win outright, then the candidates receiving the highest amount of votes candidates per remaining open seat) move on to the General Election (Nov. 4 election day). Oro Valley has non-partisan elections, which means that candidates are elected regardless of their political affiliation.
