Arizona Repertory Singers (ARS), Tucson’s premier vocal choral group, celebrates 25 years under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Jeffry A. Jahn with a concert season featuring his favorite songs. ARS’ highly-anticipated annual winter concerts will be Dec. 7, 14 and 19 and are expected to sell out. Advanced tickets will be available at www.arsingers.org beginning Oct.1.
In December, the post will be having a Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 20. Bring an appetizer and a white elephant gift. On Wednesday, Dec. 31, there will be a New Year’s Eve party starting at 5 p.m. A band will start at 8 p.m.

It is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13, at 9:30 a.m. and will last 90 minutes. This year’s parade will be celebrating the Community of Oro Valley.

The Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus will present its Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 14 at 3:00pm and 7:30pm at the UA School of Music Crowder Hall. Under the direction of Julian Ackerley, the chorus will perform its 75th Anniversary Holiday Concert highlighting songs of holiday celebrations world-wide including Christmas carols, sacred songs and Hanukkah favorites. A distinctive feature will be the joining of the Touring Chorus with the Young Men’s Ensemble performing Gloria by English composer John Rutter.
AMVETS Post 770 will be assisting American Legion Post 102 with the Veterans’ Day Service on Tuesday, Nov. 11, starting at 11 a.m., at the TEPOA multipurpose building. The commander and auxiliary president will speak along with the first vice president, who will be assisting in the POW/MIA chair ceremony, and the Color Guard will be posting and retrieving the colors.
During the month October, the official days to fly the flag are Columbus Day on Monday, Oct. 13 and on Navy Day on Monday, Oct. 17.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona (CIUA) is excited to present the third Annual Chinese Culture Festival September 20-28, 2014 in Tucson, AZ. This year is the tenth anniversary of the establishment of Confucius Institutes around the world. We will join other Confucius Institutes to hold a Confucius Institute Day as the opening of the 2014 CIUA Chinese Culture Festival. Special lectures on Chinese concepts of time and on Confucius as an historical figure will be presented by faculty from the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona. The theme of this year’s Festival is “Health Promotion and Wellness.” In addition to our annual language competition, culture exhibition, concert, and Chinese martial arts demonstration, we will present a special Chinese food therapy dinner lecture, a professional workshop on traditional Chinese medicine, and a lecture on acupuncture and health by faculty from leading universities of Chinese medicine in China. Tucsonans are guaranteed a rich cultural experience; Last year, over 3000 Arizonans participated in the CIUA Chinese Culture Festival.

Presented By Northwest Medical Center, The Arizona Distance Classic Half Marathon will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Sunday, March 23.
On March 23, residents of Oro Valley and the surrounding community will have an opportunity to exercise their mind, body and spirit in the 10th anniversary of the Arizona Distance Classic. A variety of events are on the docket from a half-marathon for the most experienced runners, to the Splendido Super Mile all-ages walk. While not everyone is marathon-ready, there’s much to be said for the benefits of walking - no matter what the pace. And, beginning a walking fitness plan is inexpensive, simple and almost anyone can do it.
