One future Wildcat and four Arizona targets were part of the USA U-18 Men who beat Uruguay 156-58 in the first game of the FIBA Americas U18 Championship play on Friday night at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Stanley Johnson, who will be a Wildcat freshman this fall, scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 14 minutes.
“It’s really amazing to play for coaches like this and in an organization like this,” Johnson said. “To me this is, I love it, I feel like I’m at home. You get all the best players together and we play as a team. That’s the best thing ever. With USA Basketball we can do that and we play for our country.”
The two guards Arizona is pursuing also had solid nights. Allonzo Trier was 4-5 from the field, scoring 14 points and dishing out three assists in 13 minutes. Isaiah Briscoe scored just six points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out nine assists.
The two Bishop Gorman big men, Chase Jeter and Stephen Zimmerman, combined to shoot 12-15 from the field. Jeter scored 14 points, while Zimmer man scored 13. Each player had five rebounds.
