The Omaha Storm Chasers completed a sweep of the Tucson Padres Monday, defeating Tucson 5-2 at Kino Stadium. The Padres have been swept four times this season and are currently on a six-game losing streak dating back to August 8 in Albuquerque.
The Storm Chasers struck first in the top second with an RBI single from Max Ramirez to right field. The Padres jumped ahead 2-1 in bottom of the third. Andy Parrino singled home Daniel Robertson to tie the game and a fielding error committed by Storm Chasers third baseman Johnny Giavotella with two outs gave Tucson the one-run lead.
Omaha’s David Lough evened the score in the fourth inning with an RBI ground out to score Wil Myers. The Storm Chasers regained the lead in the fifth with back-to-back RBI hits from Giavotella and Myers. Omaha added another run in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 advantage.
Donnie Joseph tossed a two-inning save to secure the victory for Omaha. Storm Chasers starting pitcher Ryan Verdugo earned his tenth win of the year and struck out seven batters in six innings. Bear Bay lost his eighth game for the Padres, surrendering 11 hits and four earned runs.
