Tucson Padres Game Summary
Tucson 9 Fresno 6 - Monday
WP: Kunz (2-0)
LP: Lively (3-3)
S: Hamren (3)
The Tucson Padres scored five unanswered runs in Fresno Monday to come back and beat the Grizzlies, 9-6. Tucson's bullpen held the Grizzlies late, with Eddie Kunz, Jason Ray, Miles Mikolas and Erik Hamren pitching a scoreless inning each to close the game. The Padres have now won back-to-back games and have taken two of the first three games of the series.
The Padres led 4-1 in the fifth when Charlie Culberson's grand slam capped off a five-run inning for Fresno. The Grizzlies lead didn't last long, as Tucson pinch hitter Cody Decker launched a home run out of the stadium in left field to tie the game. It was the Padres first pinch-hit home run of the season and first since Matt Clark's on May 15, 2011 vs. Albuquerque. The Padres had two outs and no baserunners in the seventh inning when they sparked a rally to score three runs. Anthony Contreras hit an RBI double, Sawyer Carroll hit an RBI single and the Padres grabbed another run when Fresno first baseman Brett Pill mishandled a pickoff throw from Mitch Lively with runners at first and third.
The Padres are now 25-52, in fourth place, 23 games behind first place Sacramento in the Southern Division. The Padres had six players with multi-hit games Monday.
