Game 1 - Wednesday

Albuquerque 4 Tucson 0

WP: Ely (12-7) LP: Reyes (8-10) S: None Time: 1:51

Jon Ely threw a complete game shutout Wednesday to help the Albuquerque Isotopes defeat the Tucson Padres 4-0, ending the Padres three game winning streak. The complete game shutout was the first of the season for Ely, who struck out eight in the contest.

The Isotopes threatened to score in the bottom of the first with two runners on and one out, but Padres catcher Nick Hundley threw out Elian Herrera attempting to steal third base and Tucson starting pitcher Jorge Reyes induced a fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Albuquerque took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Ivan De Jesus lined a three-run home run over the left field wall. Matt Angle’s RBI single in the fifth gave the Isotopes a 4-0 advantage.

Tucson had a chance to score in the top of the sixth with Daniel Robertson on first base, but Isotopes right fielder Scott Van Slyke made a diving catch to rob Anthony Contreras of extra bases and a RBI.

Reyes pitched a complete game for the Padres, allowing ten hits and four runs in his tenth loss of the year.

Game 2 - Wednesday

Albuquerque 7 Tucson 2

WP: Loop (10-3) LP: Werner (1-1) S: None Time: 2:09 Attn: 9,123

Elian Herrera’s three-run triple in the bottom of sixth put the game out of reach for the Tucson Padres as they were defeated by the Albuquerque Isotopes 7-2 in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Tucson jumped in front in the second inning when Sawyer Carroll singled home the first run of the game. Albuquerque tied the score in the bottom of the third with an Alex Castellanos RBI single to left. Carroll once again gave Tucson the lead in the top of the fourth with another RBI single. The Isotopes came back to score two runs in the fifth inning off three hits to regain the lead, 3-2.

Albuquerque broke the game open in the sixth inning with four runs, highlighted by Herrera’s three-run triple to right field. Cory Burns surrendered all four of the runs in the inning. It was the first time Burns had allowed a run in 15 appearances.

Isotopes starting pitcher Derrick Loop earned his tenth win of the year, throwing six innings with five strikeouts. Andrew Werner followed his complete game shutout on August 2 over Round Rock by pitching 4.2 innings on Wednesday. He allowed five hits and three runs.

The two losses on Wednesday drop the Padres record to 5-3 in doubleheaders this year. Tucson ended its eight-game road trip by with four wins and four losses.
