Third place finish a good place to start, said CDO coach

The Canyon Del Oro High School boy’s golf team opened the 2011 season with a third-place finish in the 17-team Arizona Fall Preview Invitational over the weekend.

The Dorados finished with 460 points, falling behind Hamilton, which won the invitational with 445 points, and Mesa Mount View, which took second place with 451 points.

CDO coach John Farbarik said from a coach’s perspective, it was the perfect start to the season.

“We had some things that we did really well, and we had some thing that we didn’t,” he said. “That’s a perfect start because it shows us what looks good, and what areas we need to focus on moving forward.”

With 85 competitors, Logan France led CDO, finishing fifth at 109 points. Jack Otis also placed in the top 10, taking seventh place with 112.

CDO, the 2010 state championship team, was scheduled to travel to Salpointe on Monday, but the competition was rescheduled to Oct. 20 at Randolph North.

The Dorados will host Rincon at 3 p.m. today at the Oro Valley Country Club. They will return to the OVCC on Sept. 7 to host Sabino.

In addition to France and Otis, this year’s rosters consists of the following students:

Seniors: Derek Metz, DJ Niichel and Steven Wolsfeld

Juniors: Charlie Bahr, Anthony Cordova, Chris Cotsones, Wyatt Formo, Alec Tovar and Jaime Waltmire

Sophomores: Jake Dutson, PJ Dutson, Riley Ernest, Nate Peters and Chase Santoyo

Freshmen: Austin France, Christian Holland and Hunter McAdams

Register now for annual Fore for Youth golf event

The SaddleBrooke Rotary Club is now accepting registration for its 14th annual Fore for Kids Charity Golf Tournament. It will take place Friday, Nov. 4, at the Mountain View Golf Course at the Mountain View Golf Club in SaddleBrooke. All proceeds will benefit youth charities in Pinal and Pima counties.

All levels of play are welcome. A scramble format makes it easy for everyone to play. The tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

The cost is $100 per golfer, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Entry forms are available at the pro shops in SaddleBrooke, as well as at Sunbird Realty, Central Arizona College Center and the mini-market on SaddleBrooke Boulevard.

Players will vie for more than $2,000 in prizes as well as three hole-in-one cars and a hole-in-one golf cart prize.

Items for the silent auction at lunch include a $400 watch and other specialty items.

Sponsorship levels include golfer entries and signs on the golf course. For additional information, contact Andy Gregory at Sunbird Realty by calling 818-0088 or emailing agbw@msn.com.

The SaddleBrooke Rotary Club is a worldwide, humanitarian organization. It is an active local community service group that provides fellowship with a common purpose.

Meetings are held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays in SaddleBrooke’s HOA 1 clubhouse. The public may attend. The club will pay for a newcomer’s first luncheon.
