The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (3-4, 1-1 in conference) broke open its game against Chandler-Gilbert Community College in the second half to win 86-72 for its first conference win of the season.

Up 32-28 at halftime, the Aztecs opened up their lead holding Chandler-Gilbert scoreless for the first two and half minutes and went on a 9-0 run to take a lead 41-28. Pima’s biggest lead of the game would be 21 points on two occasions. Chandler-Gilbert cut the lead to 75-64 but that’s as close as it would get as Felicia Foster (Peoria HS) would hit a three-pointer on the next possession to help halt the comeback.

Foster scored 13 of her team-high 16 points in the second half. She also had four assists and three steals. Holly Bolen (Tucson Magnet HS) had the hot hand for the Aztecs as she went 5 for 8 from three-point range and finished with 15 points. Melody McLaughlin (Mountain View HS) scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half and Raja Moreno-Ross (Tucson Magnet HS) contributed with seven points and 12 rebounds.

The Aztecs will play at Phoenix College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
