The Pima Community College baseball team (9-12-1, 6-6 in conference) couldn’t overtake Central Arizona College on Tuesday in Coolidge as the Aztecs dropped two games.
Bryant Muñoz (Tucson Magnet HS) scored the only run of the game off a wild pitch as the Aztecs lost 7-1 in the first game. Jake Cole (Sahuaro HS) took the loss and dropped to 1-3 on the year. Pima got nine hits with Jesus Arvizu (Palo Verde HS), Luis Robles (Flowing Wells HS) and Sergio Ortiz (Sunnyside HS) each going 2 for 3 for the game. Central Arizona scored two runs in the 2nd inning and three runs in the 4th to help pull away.
The bats came alive for both teams in the second game as the Aztecs fell 12-8. Pima closed the gap to 10-8 after scoring four runs in the 8th inning. Muñoz had an RBI single and Dylan Dyson (Flowing Wells HS) had a sacrifice fly as part of the inning. Ortiz had an RBI single in the 6th inning while Arvizu hit an RBI single in the 7th. Central Arizona scored two more runs in the bottom of the 8th to help seal it. Muñoz got on base four times for the Aztecs going 2 for 3 with an RBI, a run scored and two walks. Kyle Becerra (Marcos de Niza HS) and Juan Gamez (Cienega HS) each scored two runs. Cooper Smith (Canyon del Oro HS) went 2 for 5 with two RBIs.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Saturday when they host Yavapai College. The first game will start at noon.
