The Tucson Padres are sole possession of first place for the first time in team history after sweeping a doubleheader in Colorado Springs Thursday.

In the Padres 7-4 win in Game 1, Jose Gonzalez put the Sky Sox ahead 1-0 in the second with an RBI infield single. The Padres responded in the top of the third with two runs on Gregorio Petit’s two-out double to take the lead. Colorado Springs tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third when Greg Golson was hit by pitch with the bases loaded. The Padres rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead, 5-3. The first run came across on a passed ball, while the other two scored on Ben Francisco’s two-out single. Colorado Springs got one run back in the bottom of the fourth on Charlie Blackmon’s RBI double. Jonathan Galvez’s sixth home run of the year, a two-run shot to left, extended Tucson’s lead to 7-4.

Brad Brach (2-1) earned his second win after pitching 1.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Brandon Kloess. Colt Hynes struck out three of the five batters he faced in the final two innings to pick up his fourth save. C.J.
