Could you play 100 holes of golf in one day? That’s exactly what professional golfers will attempt to do on Thursday, June 9, to raise money for a good cause as part of PGA Golf Day.

That effort will take place locally starting at 5 a.m. at the Heritage Highlands Golf Course at Dove Mountain, 4949 W. Heritage Club Blvd. HHGC professionals Brad Engel, Preston Otte and Brad Volker will shake hands at the first tee box, and their long journey to play 100 continuous holes of golf in one day will begin.

This is the second year that Engel, Otte and Volker are participating. The trio should finish by 5 p.m. That is the time they shook hands last year on the 10th green after completing the 100-hole challenge.

The men are the only Tucson golf pros participating in PGA Golf Day.

The public is invited to attend. There is no spectator admission fee.

PGA Golf Day is a project of the Southwest Section, PGA of America to raise funds for the Special Olympics. Today, this program serves to facilitate the efforts of PGA Sections across the country in raising much-needed funds for their local philanthropies and foundations.

In 2010, the Southwest Section raised more than $158,000 during the event, and the Heritage Highlands threesome raised more than $6,000. Their goal this year is to raise $9,000.

To donate, you may go to www.pgagolfday.com and donate in the name of any of the three.
