The 46-year-old former major league pitcher said that it was an event that he dealt with and moved on, but this is the first time that the incident has come to light.
“I was in New York with my wife, who was running the New York Marathon. I was watching it, and I had chest pains,” Schilling told The Globe.
Schilling to the newspaper he waited for his wife to finish the marathon because he didn’t think his pains were anything serious. He then flew back to Boston, where he went straight from Logan Airport to a local hospital without an ambulance.
Schilling reportedly underwent surgery the next day to insert a stent.
