Game Storylines

» Former Border Conference rivals Arizona and Texas Tech will square off on Tuesday as UA looks to run its record to 8-0 overall and 5-0 at McKale Center this season; the Wildcats are ranked second in both polls this week, their highest ranking under head coach Sean Miller.

» Now in his fifth season in Tucson, Miller continues to honor a process that has seen him lead UA to a Pac-12-best 87-28 (.757) record since the start of the 2010-11 campaign.

» UA is 31-4 (.886) under Miller in non-conference home games, having won their last 11; the Wildcats are 12-8 (.600) in non-conference games against major-conference opponents since Miller arrived on campus.

» Fresh off of its record-tying fourth NIT Season Tip-Off title, Arizona opens a three-game homestand ranked seventh nationally in field goal percentage defense (.353) and 13th in scoring defense (59.4).

» Long and athletic on the perimeter, UA has hassled opposing shooters into a 29.4 percent mark from three-point range this season, including a total of 17-of-66 (.257) in its last four games.

» Arizona’s post defense has been stellar in the early going, limiting opponents to 37.9 percent shooting inside the arc and averaging a Pac-12-best 6.7 blocks per game; last season’s UA team averaged only 3.8 blocks per contest.

» Point guard T.J. McConnell has orchestrated an offensive attack that is operating at 51.4 percent from the floor, while averaging 26.3 free throw attempts per game; McConnell ranks 12th nationally in assists (6.4/game) and owns a 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio on the season.

» Sean Miller’s biggest Arizona team has been lethal in the paint over the season’s first seven games, nearly doubling its opponents’ output in the same area; UA is +16.4 points per game in the paint on average and shooting 57.1 percent from inside the arc this season.

» Arizona has won the rebounding battle in each of its seven games this season and ranks fourth nationally with a +13.6 rebound margin; frontcourt starters Aaron Gordon, Brandon Ashley and Kaleb Tarczewski are all averaging over six rebounds per contest.

» The Wildcats have been lethal from the arc in four games at McKale Center this season, shooting .460 (29-of-63) in those contests.

» Gabe York and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson are averaging a combined 18.3 points per game off the bench this season to bolster a UA reserve unit that is outscoring opponents’ benches by an average of 9.4 points per contest.
