PCC Women’s Tennis Dominates Glendale CC

The Pima Community College women’s tennis team (5-3, 1-1) got back on track in conference play on Tuesday as it shut out Glendale Community College 9-0 at the West Campus.

Amy Beeston (Lehi HS, UT) defeated Jackie Mettler 6-3, 6-1 in her No.4 singles match to complete the sweep for the Aztecs. Torie Wake (Lone Peak HS) fell behind 1-2 in the second set against Janet Rodriguez but came back to win 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Wake and Beeston won their No. 2 doubles match 8-0.

Julienne Cananea (Bradshaw Mountain HS) shut out Laura Kirby 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and along with Helena Meyer (Nogales HS) won their No. 3 doubles match 8-1. In the No. 1 doubles match Helen Altieri (Kofa HS) and Kari Emery (Flowing Wells HS) defeated Sofia Rodriguez and Savannah Smith 8-1. Altieri beat Rodriguez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Emery defeated Smith in the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-1. Vivian Pierson (Catalina HS) won her No. 6 singles match over Rhianna Johnson 6-1, 6-0.

The Aztecs will play at Mesa Community College Tuesday, Mar. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
