All those extra calories consumed during the holidays can become a thing of the past by joining the 2009 Egg Nog Jog on New Year’s Day.
Marana’s second annual 5K run/walk will give your resolutions a leg up while offering a fun, active alternative to sitting on the couch and being tempted by more overindulging.
Runners start at Continental Reserve Park and wind through the neighborhood at a non-competitive pace. At the finish line, they’ll be rewarded with egg nog, food, drinks, fun prizes, a free t-shirt and knowing they did something good for their bodies.
To help participants get in shape for the run, Marana Parks and Recreation teamed with Blue Pants Racing to create a free training program that included health screenings, running sessions and seminars. Injury prevention, nutrition and strength training are some of the topics trainers covered since the program started Nov. 11. Runners also received advice on selecting proper shoes and gear as well as racing strategies.
Health screenings, conducted by representatives from Northwest Medical Center, were comprised of cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and body mass index measurements.
Although those who regularly attended the training sessions may find themselves more prepared for the 5K, everyone is welcome to join in, and registration is open until race time to all ages and abilities.
Register in advance online or in person the morning of the event and jump-start the New Year with a healthier you.
