I am my own little Spain.  A mind doused with confetti.

I am a breathing, typing Iberian Peninsula, celebrating weekend victories with dreams of emptying my checking account at Home Depot on lumber, and building a galleon christened “Guillen.”

Never mind the treasonous nature of that opening statement, viewed against my Teutonic surname and the Euro 2008 Championship.  My White Sox swept the Cubs this weekend and settled accounts outstanding from last week’s Wrigley Field beating.

Sagittarius has returned to Chicago’s South Side sky.

Apologies, in advance, for another expat rant.  While I’m at it, I’ll try and forget all the out-of-state collegiate banners flying during the Accenture Tournament, in Dove Mountain backyards.

Just as paybacks sailed over U.S. Cellular Field’s left-centerfield wall, off CDO alum Brian Anderson’s bat during Sunday night’s fourth inning, the text messages began creeping in.

“Enjoy your Wildcat Triple AAA call-up’s moment,” sent a fellow expat, watching from some Phoenix bar. Sobbing, likely.

Whatever.

I earned no mercy after the column a couple weeks back, about the odds of a Cross-town World Series.  That one farmed taunts from Cub-friendlies the way kids poke dead raccoons with sticks.

I acknowledge the impending eight-game sugar crash the Sox will embrace after All-Star Break, which always happens. And I could care less. Wrigleyville’s best were sent back like overcooked steak, and the Sox’s lead on the AL West continues to grow over the Twins.

Granted, there’s a reservoir of local analysis waiting for our hammock-bound Diamondbacks, snoozing since that Dolphin Stadium day when Brandon Webb proved mortal against the Marlins.

And I eagerly await the day I get to masticate a cross-state series between the Phoenix Diamondbacks and the franchise Tucson will pick up, whenever the council quits chattering behind Mike Hein’s back and does something proactive.

OK, that’s a stretch.  See: Rio Nuevo.

Hallucinations of the I-10 Series may not materialize, but there’ll be a bucket of vacation days in my account come October.

Good thing us South-Siders fly into Midway — rumor says United plans to surcharge Sox fans landing at O’Hare.
