The Xpress Baseball Club, a team that consists of players who live on the northwest side, has recently adopted the Cañada Del Oro Wash. The team will serve the community by removing trash from the wash a couple times a year.

“These kids need to learn more than just baseball,” said one of the head coaches, Heath Bolin. “We came up with the idea to volunteer to clean the wash. They were old enough and it’s never too young to learn.”

In February, the Xpress Baseball Team met up at 8 a.m. by the bridge on East Pusch View Lane. Head coaches and parents handed out trash bags, gloves and trash grabbers to players. For the next hour or so the players walked in the wash and picked up trash. “I like being able to help,” said Bubba Mustain.

Xpress Baseball Club is a non-profit team that was put together four years ago. A group of players wanted to play longer than the Little League season, so parents decided it would be worthwhile to put together a team.  Players on the team attend Copper Creek Elementary School, Coronado K-8 School or Richard B. Wilson K-8 School.

“Over time the team grew in size. Eventually younger siblings wanted to play too so we added more teams,” said Bolin. Currently, the baseball club has four teams with boys from ages 8 to 13. The teams compete in tournaments all over the state, but majority of the time play in Phoenix.

Recently the team volunteered to work a water station at the Tucson Conquistadores Classic 4 Mile Run and Walk. There the players handed out water to runners as they ran by. The money raised at the event will go to a Tucson Conquistador Foundation that helps charities throughout Tucson.
