The Pima Community College baseball team (15-12-1) finished up their portion of the Jack Howell Classic on Friday going undefeated in its four games at the West Campus. The Aztecs are on a six-game winning streak.
The Aztecs scored three runs in the 5th inning to beat Miles Community College 6-2. He later scored on a throwing error to make it 5-2. Muñoz hit an RBI single in the 6th inning that scored Kyle Becerra (Marcos de Niza HS). The Aztecs were able to rally in the late innings scoring eight runs in the final two innings. Down 3-2, Cooper Smith (Canyon del Oro HS) tied the game with an RBI single. Arvizu followed with his 2-run RBI single to put Pima back up 5-3 as part of a four-run 6th inning.
GateWay threatened with runners on 1st and 3rd in the 6th inning but relief pitcher Santiago Romero (Sunnyside HS) got a strikeout to end the inning. Arvizu wasn’t finished as he hit a three-run double in the top of the 7th to put Pima up 10-3 as part of another four-run 7th inning. Romero (3-1) got the win. Arvizu finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs and Smith went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
“We are beginning to eliminate some of the mistakes that hurt us earlier this year,” Pima coach Jason Hisey said.
