Former Ironwood Ridge golfer Alex McMahon was honored as part of the University of Arizona’s Wildcat Wednesday’s Student-Athlete Spotlight.
The piece highlighted his career with the Wildcat Men’s Golf Team as he heads into his senior season.
The story highlighted his Pac-12 First Team All-Academic honors in 2013 and 2014, as well as his 2014 Cleveland Golf/Srixon Academic All-American honor and All Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
“Alex spends most of his time with friends and family,” the story noted. “With his parents still living in Oro Valley, Alex frequently drops in for a home-cooked meal and family time. His plans for after college include playing professional golf on the PGA Tour. As of now, the goal is to turn pro at the end of the upcoming season and be ready to play in the fall of 2015.”
“I've always looked up to players like Greg Norman and Arnold Palmer who have created huge enterprises and world famous brands after their playing careers were over,” Alex said in the story, explaining his interest in the business side of golf. “A dream of mine would be to one day open a sports-themed donut shop here in Tucson.”
