After an off-season of landing superstars such as Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, the Los Angeles Lakers quickly gained the national spotlight. Similar to the Miami Heat two years ago, when they landed LeBron James and Chris Bosh, the Lakers are making aggressive moves to bring back the Larry O’Brien trophy. Despite their impressive talent, the Lakers have already faced a multitude of problems within their first ten games.

It began with a winless pre-season (0-8), and moved to a 1-4 regular season start. That is all it took for the Lakers to fire their head coach, Mike Brown. By firing Brown only five games into the season, the Laker organization made it clear that they expect a title and nothing less. So, who does this storied franchise bring in to take them to their 18th championship?

There’s no doubt that their top choice is former Laker coach and 11-time champion, Phil Jackson. Jackson, who retired last season due to health issues and simply struggling to keep up with the grueling pace of the NBA season and all the traveling, has already begun negotiations.

He is by far the most qualified for the job, having already won five titles with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers to go along with being the winningest coach in NBA history. Although it is evident that it is “Phil’s job to lose” according to sources close to the situation, the Lakers are interviewing a spectrum of other coaches.

Maybe on top of the list behind Jackson, is former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks coach, Mike D’Antoni. D’Antoni, who coached Steve Nash back in Phoenix, has also had experience coaching multiple superstars on the same roster such as, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudamire on the Knicks.

Other notable names that the Lakers are bringing in for interviews are former Los Angeles Clippers coach, Mike Dunleavy and former Utah Jazz coach, Jerry Sloan.

However, when all is said and done, it will most likely be Phil Jackson back with the Lakers. In fact, it is already shaping up to be a two-year deal worth eight figures which would give Jackson control over basketball decisions and include travel restrictions.
