The Pima Community College men’s golf team finished the regular season on a strong note as it closed out the Pima Invitational in second place on Tuesday at the Silverbell Golf Course.
Joseph Courtney finished the tournament tied for 4th place and earned medalist honors after shooting a 3-under 137 (68-69) for the tournament. Sean Mullen (Palo Verde HS) had the next best score for the Aztecs closing out the tournament with a 2-over par 142 (71-71). The difference maker in the second day could have easily been Austin Stuessel (Ironwood Ridge HS), who improved by 8-strokes from the first day with a 146 (77-69).
The Aztecs finished with a two-day team score of 563 (283-280). South Mountain took first place with a 543 while Mesa Community College finished third at 564.
“The kids played great and they’re playing to their capabilities,” Pima coach Grant Waltke said. “We have to play good if not better than we have done at Regionals and I believe they’ll shine at Nationals.”
Joseph Courtney will attempt to repeat as NJCAA Region I Champion as the tournament will take place at the Sidewinder Golf Course in Gold Canyon on April 25-28.
