Local venues are gearing up for the biggest sports day of the year, Super Bowl Sunday, which takes place on Feb. 2 between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. While an estimated 75,000 people will watch Super Bowl XLVIII in person at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the vast majority of sports enthusiasts will watch the big game on a big screen, either from home or at a restaurant or sports bar. 

According to data website statisticbrain.com, more than three quarters (77 percent) of Americans will watch the Super Bowl from the comfort of their home, while 3 percent will travel to a restaurant or bar.

To prepare for additional foot traffic and drive revenues upward, some local establishments are hosting special meals or events to enhance the festivities. 

Monsoon’s Tap & Grill, located at 6781 N. Thornydale Road, will cook its famous bratwursts on the outdoor patio, and will also be preparing special dishes that are popular and native to the hometown cities of Denver and Seattle. 

Co-owner Danny Liebeskind said the Seattle dish will be baked salmon, while Denver’s dish is still to be determined. 

On a day known for its beer sales (49.2 million cases), Monsoon will also host a happy hour during the game, featuring 18 Arizona craft beers on tap for $3.25. Guests who wear their team’s jersey will get their first beer for $1. 

For a small cost, guests will also be allowed to participate in a football IQ contest.

“We assume we are going to have a pretty good crowd,” said Liebeskind. “We generally have a good turnout for football during the regular season, and expect the Super Bowl to be even better.”

Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen, located at 7265 N. La Cholla Blvd., will include Super Bowl specials to include $4 Captain Morgan, $4 Cherry Limeade, $3 Fireball, as well as a $12.99 special sampler, which includes cheese curds, chicken tenders, potato skins, and pretzels. A t-shirt will also be given away after every quarter of the game as part of a raffle. Tickets for the raffle will be handed out starting at 3 p.m.

Fox and Hound will offer buy one get one free wings for delivery, and will offer VIP Packages for guests with reservations.
