Hopes are high around the Ironwood Ridge girls soccer program. The Nighthawk girls are coming off a playoff appearance and are off to a great start this season after winning the Brandon Bean Kickoff Classic.
Prince Elementary School kindergartener Malaysia Tatum tries on one of the 200 pairs of shoes that was donated along side 450 hoodies during the Canyon Del Oro High School football team’s annual hoodie drive. TEP donated $2,500 along with numerous other goodies for the students.
Months of fundraising and planning are about to pay off for the Marana High School junior varsity and varsity cheer teams. The teams were invited to perform at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego later this month.
Arizona jumped out to a 26-4 lead and never looked back in a 101-64 win over Oakland University on Tuesday night. The 101 points is the most by the Wildcats in regulation since Sean Miller became head coach. The Wildcats scored 107 in a multiple overtime game in 2011.
The Tortolita Middle School 7th grade girls soccer team won the Northwest League Championship against Wilson Middle school thanks to a 3-1 win.

Two Marana area youth football teams advanced to the AYF National Championship games on Friday. The Marana Broncos Pee Wee and Jr. Midget teams both won their games in Kissimmee, Florida on Wednesday morning.
University of Arizona sophomore linebacker Scooby Wright III was given the Rotary Lombardi Award in Houston on Wednesday, presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding defensive lineman or linebacker. The selection committee is made up of Division I head coaches, media personnel and former winners and finalists of the Rotary Lombardi Award. He also won the 2014 Bronko Nagurski Trophy in Charlotte, N.C. on Monday.
It was obvious pretty early on that Arizona was vastly superior to Utah Valley on Tuesday night’s 87-56 win. The Wildcats won by 29 points and midway through the second half had doubled up the Wolverines 64-32. The lopsided nature of the game allowed Arizona to showcase their entire freshman class and it gave us glimpse of a bright future.
Ironwood Ridge returns nine seniors off of a 19-win team a year ago. With so much experience returning, the Nighthawks have a deep squad with good chemistry.
