I read Thelma Grimes “What’s in a name?” with great interest.  I fear to think if Judge Ballew was to come to the desert southwest, how many birth records she would have to go through to make sure the multitude of folks named “Jesus”, “Angel” and “Maria” were renamed something more appropriate to fit her righteous, fundamental Christian view of non offensive names for an infant.

Judge Ballew clearly used prejudice and bias when she made her decision to intervene in the name Messiah.  Granted, I have experience going through life with an unusual name and all the jokes that accompany it but I say the kid can change his name to something else when he is of age if it offends him.  In the meantime, it is a parent’s choice to pick the name for their child.
