While Costco may pay their employees a large salary, it has to be considered that not many poor people shop at Costco due to the prices and limited selection. You may as well argue that Nordstroms pays a good wage compared to Wal-Mart.

I actually agree with your position on Wal-Mart and other low paying mega-corporations which have become so numerous in the last three decades.
As a conservative and a free market advocate, I can also accept the opposite perspective that the country's economy is imperiled when we have lost many good paying jobs to globalism, and Americans are forced to seek employment in companies which are less than generous to working people.
The idea of a free market is attractive in theory, but in reality the mega-corporations have replaced the " robber barons " of old, where profits were sacrosanct, and the welfare of those who made profits possible became secondary. The results, despite the progress and prosperity brought about by the Henry Ford's, the Rockefeller's, the Andrew Carnegie's, was a struggle for workplace fairness, decent salaries, reasonable benefits for those who made American prosperity possible with their actual sweat and hard work.
The balance of profits and worker benefits has become tenuous at best, and without resorting to an entrenched political position of socialism vs capitalism, there are reasonable standards which can be achieved, and both sides need to concede in some areas.
Government taxes spur the corporations to seek ways to trim costs, and workers usually lose, as in Obamacare and in evidence shown that Uncle Sam is not very smart with taxpayer money. Instead of developing a sensible and affordable health insurance reform, Obama and the Democrats rushed a monolithic socialist system into play, sending the corporations into hiding. Dumb move. Cronies and Congress were exempted. What a stupid way to fix the problem.
Wal-Mart has cheap prices, and it is able to decimate the competition easily. It is not a monster. However, the headquarters of this giant should begin to show some generosity and humanity towards our fellow citizens, the workers who made Wal-Mart prosperous.
Meanwhile, we must pray this economy turns around. Already, there is a spike in ex-pats moving away from our country, renouncing their citizenship, and seeking a better life elsewhere. It is a mere trickle now, but if we continue on our destructive economic path, the floodgates may open a generation from now.
