If you’re a foodie and you just so happen to be looking for something to do this weekend, you’re in luck. Two local events are sure to tempt your taste buds.

This weekend marks the start of Peach Mania 2013 at Apple Annie’s Orchard in Willcox (located at 2081 W Hardy Road). While Apple Annie’s might best be known for their apple orchards and pumpkin patch, summer months at Apple Annie’s are bursting with the sweet, juicy flavor of tree-ripened peaches. Orchard guests are invited to take the free wagon ride into the orchards and pick all the fruit they care to purchase. And if all that harvesting works up an appetite, not to worry: Apple Annie’s offers a hearty lunch from 11:30 to 3:00 daily in their burger barn. You can get a burger (there is a veggie option as well) with all the fixin’s for $7.99. Top it off with a slice of homemade peach pie or homemade peach ice cream. If fresh peaches sound good but you’d like to skip the picking, harvested fruit is available for purchase by the pound. Apple Annie’s also offers several peach products and you can savor freshly-roasted ears of corn at the farm location just down the country road. Peach Mania runs weekends now through August 18th, so don’t worry if you’re schedule for this coming weekend is already overflowing. My family has attended this event several years in a row and my kids have a blast every time. If you go, you might consider wearing long pants and closed-toed shoes.

Closer to home, Hub presents Tucson’s first annual Scoop Fest this Saturday, July 13. Hub is located at 266 East Congress Street in downtown Tucson. Scoop Fest will take place between 4 and 10 p.m. in the Hub parking lot. With flavors like Bourbon Almond Brittle and White Chocolate Passion Fruit, Hub’s $3 scoops are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. Salted caramel, strawberry malt and classic favorites chocolate and vanilla will also be available at Scoop Fest. If you’d rather drink your ice cream, you can score a milkshakes (chocolate, vanilla or blueberry) for $4. While just six flavors will be available in the parking lot during Scoop Fest, twenty-four flavors will be available inside. Make an evening out of it; free and family-friendly entertainment will be plentiful at 2nd Saturdays Downtown. Also worth noting is that one dollar from each Scoop Fest purchase will go to Hub’s non-profit partners. As if you needed a reason to indulge.

Happy tasting!
