The NBA has been the hub of sports as of late. The most recent activity was the unveiling of the lottery picks for the upcoming draft. The New Orleans Hornets in a big upset, received the first pick in the NBA draft. The Charlotte Bobcats, who were believed to earn the top, pick finished with the second pick, followed by the Washington Wizards. It is expected that Anthony Davis of the University of Kentucky will be selected first.
In the meantime, the NBA playoffs are getting even closer to the finals. The San Antonio Spurs have taken a lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder by winning the first two games of the series at home. The Thunder is now returning to their home court as they look to even the series.
In the east, the Miami Heat have also taken a lead over the Boston Celtics by winning the first two games of the series at home. After a physically draining overtime loss in game two, the Celtics look to bounce back as they return home. They must win four of five games in order to advance to the finals. The Heat are looking to return to the finals for consecutive seasons.
The NHL playoffs are now down to the final two teams, the New Jersey Devils and the Los Angeles Kings. Neither team was predicted to make it to the finals. The Devils are a 6 seed and the Kings are an 8 seed. After winning the first game of the series, the Kings have a chance to be the first 8 seed to win the Stanley Cup. Regardless of who wins, both teams have overcome the odds.
The big news at the French Open is that Serena Williams lost in the first round. This is her first loss in this round in any major event she has played in. Meanwhile, in the second round, John Isner lost in a “marathon match”. Isner, known for his 6 hour, 33 minute match against Nicolas Mahut, came close to his breaking record. After his 5 hour, 41 minute match, Isner was eliminated by Paul-Henri Mathieu.
